Building Frimley’s Bigger Future
Hastings and Bexhill Mencap strives to open all of our services and projects to everyone, regardless of their abilities.
Unfortunately, at times, it isn’t possible to offer all of our services to everybody due to the need for accessible spaces. To move forward into a world where people with physical and learning disabilities have access to all of the projects and activities we offer, our organisation must grow!
Find out why and how we are Building Frimley’s Bigger Future…
Project outline
Frimley is based in London Road, St Leonards. We feel part of the community here, the transport links provide access for our more independent members and our minibuses are accessible for outings into our community. For this reason we feel strongly about expanding our service and building rather than move! January 2023 saw the start of the build project. Day services and offices relocated to temporary homes as work got underway to realise our vision!
Hastings and Bexhill Mencap are extremely proud to have raised just over half of the money needed for the full project and this means we can complete the first phase of the building work – the adaptations and extension to the existing building. Phase one facilities include:
- A new visual arts suite
- ‘Changing Places’ toilet facilities (for more info, click here)
- Newly renovated classroom facilities
- Newly adapted kitchen facilities
- Accessible garden
- Newly installed lift enabling people of all abilities to access all areas of the building.
Finally, a bridge will be installed to link the existing building to phase 2 – A new performance and rehearsal space to be constructed in the garden.
We are concentrating all efforts into raising the remaining funds of £450,000. We are working with professional fundraisers and bid writers to help us get to the finish line, but we need your help. Can you make a donation or would you be willing to fund raise for us? Every penny goes to the building fund and ensures that we get a little bit closer!
To have this new addition to our existing building will mean being able to increase the services that people can access regardless of their physical needs. It’s a huge project, but one we feel is essential to the sustainable future of Hastings and Bexhill Mencap. We need to raise around £450,000 to complete our project!
