About Hastings and Bexhill Mencap

We aim to ensure that people with a learning disability are valued members of the community with equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities.

Hastings & Bexhill Mencap Society is a local self-funding charity registered with the charity commission that upholds the values of the National Mencap charity.

The society provides a day service (Open Door), visual and performing arts project (Active Arts), and social clubs for adults with learning disabilities.

Our services are generously supported by our charity shop in Kings Road, St Leonards on Sea. The Society has been supporting local people with a learning disability and their families and carers for nearly 60 years.

We offer a network of support for parents and carers within the Society, signposting to authorities, organisations and other areas of support. The society depends on volunteers to help to run social events, charity shop and support within our day services. If you can spare a couple of hours a week and would like to volunteer with us, we would love to hear from you, please contact us.

The society is run by a board of trustees, known as the Executive Committee. This committee is responsible for the services run by Hastings & Bexhill Mencap Society.
